How God Speaks
Is it impossible that God would speak to you in a distinct loud voice audibly like you and I might speak? No, but that does not generally nor frequently happen. While scripture does indicate that has happened, we have limited accounts of it. For example, the Lord spoke to Adam in the Garden of Eden, He spoke to the Apostle Paul when he was still known as Saul, and many others but not everyone.
So then how does He speak to us if we are willing to listen?
—Through His Written Word, the Bible
Don’t get caught up and bogged down in complicated Names or difficult passages, but look for scripture that clearly speaks to you in simplistic most meaningful ways. Keep in mind, there are beautiful passages in the Bible. For example, “The Lord is my refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble”. Psalms is a good place to start and the Gospel of Mark and John, which give accounts of Jesus life and ministry when He was on the earth living physically among us. The scripture is always there, most people have a Bible.
—Through the Living Word which is Jesus
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, which are filled with Words of Jesus and accounts of His life. For example, Jesus said “Come unto Me all who are heaven laden and I will give you rest”.
See How God might be speaking to you through circumstances. Keep in mind though, if something bad or heartbreaking is going on in your life, God probably did not cause that, nor is it a given that you did, it is more than likely because we live in a fallen and imperfect world, where sickness, accidents, and pain at times occur. Good to know though, God is a God of peace and comfort, strength and love, care and compassion, and can restore us and/or see us through. He walks on water and calms seas and storms. God may allow you to be hurt by someone who has let you down so you can learn to forgive, He may deliver you from harm to show you He is watching over you, He will put people in your life to encourage and help you through difficult times, He may heal and restore you through the skilled hands of doctors and nurses, or miraculously, He may put people who are strong around you to give you strength, He me speak to you through preaching and singing or your discussions about your devotional reading. We can help others by letting them know what God has done in our Iives.
—Through His Voice Within You
The Spirit of God indwells the Believer of Jesus Christ.
I Kings 19:11-13
11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a “”gentle whisper””.
—Through other people
God may let you see bad behavior so you will know what not to be, He may show you those with class in how they handle themselves so you will practice it too. He may give you teachers to learn from. He may surround you with positive people who trust in Him.
—Through answered prayers
Answers of: I will, I will not, or Wait until the time is right.
He can bring peace, forgiveness and hope, and renew your faith.
—Through Jesus Himself and His Spirit
He said “Seek and you will find, give mercy receive mercy, ask and receive, exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, be given peace and grace when asking Jesus to forgive you, ask for Wisdom.
