Our task for the day “Make Someone Happy”, be kind to others and do it from the heart.
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” — Proverbs 12:25
Happiness is not always a birthday party or the new job you got that you hoped for, or seeing a beautiful flower bloom, or a new puppy or kitten, but can simply be the smile that resulted from a kind word. I don’t know that I have met anyone who does not like to smile on occasion or see someone smile. Even better it’s great to see someone with a burst of happiness or a person who has been depressed for some time suddenly cheer up.
Recently I was fortunate to run into a good friend. Some of his first words to me were “It’s good to see you, you look really good”. I later realized it was those kind words that brought a smile. Later on that day, I found myself watching a clip from a movie that was really funny, it made me smile and even laugh. When my daughter tells me she loves me, that is one of the best feelings in the world, certainly makes me smile.
If you believe God’s Word then you have to believe that the scripture “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up” is true. Why don’t we even this day be kind to someone and say a few encouraging words or do something kind and considerate for someone. It’s amazing how such simple words and the smallest of actions can make a big difference in someone’s life. Such kindness is not just for another person but being kind is good for you too.
The Bible actually instructs us to be kind. Colossians 3:12 reads “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” It also reminds us not to be selfish but to show mercy, Scripture tells us “...when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.” Surely if God can be kind to us in the most sacrificial ways, we can offer a simple gesture of kindness to another.
Make it a point today, don’t procrastinate but cheer someone up now. See if saying some kind words to someone brings a smile, or if offering a good attitude and being happy yourself will encourage others to do the same.
Now back to the scripture “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” That can easily be interpreted “Don’t worry be happy, go forth and do great things and speak kind words.”
Let us pray:
Kind and Loving Father, You are Good, Giving, Loving, Merciful and Kind. Your Word inspires us and Encourages us; Teach us and reveal to us how we can be kind to others today and offer the right words and actions to bless them. Thank You for Your Kindness to us and the world. While we were yet sinners and still separated from You, You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to redeem us and bring Restoration and Peace with You. Grant us Wisdom and Peace and teach us Your Word and continue to inspire us towards greatness for you.
In Jesus Name,
